NYC Themed Cupcakes!

Cool NYC themed cupcakes by Juniper Cakery

We LOVED these NYC themed cupcakes so much we thought we may as well dedicate an entire blog post to them. How fabulous are they? They were created for one lucky girl who jetted off to the Big Apple for her birthday. The brief was obviously New York City. So, we scribbled down a few things we thought were NYC staples… shopping, foodfoodfood, coffee, souvenirs, the iconic I<3 NYC t-shirt and bakeries a-plenty and got designing.

Each cupcake decor was perched onto white subway tile embossed fondant. This also helped us keep the colour palette fresh, modern and clean! Colour is a big thing for us. We probably spend way too much time making sure everything matches or makes sense. We decided to add in pops of bubblegum pink with small elements of green as well as cleaner neutrals. Elements of pink come from the cool donut icing, blush NYC shirt, shopping themed cupcake and a tiny little fondant cupcake!

Seriously, let’s get a close up on the donuts. They’re too adorable! The mid-pink ‘glazed’ donut even features a white Belgian chocolate drizzle! We had to make this cupcake loaded with tasty New York breakfast items so we made a pile of sugary donuts with a huge cup of coffee and an even bigger pretzel.

Of course, a good burger is a must right? We created a tiny fondant version complete with pale brown fondant buns, a brown sugar paste beef patty, slices of ‘cheese’, ruffled light green ‘lettuce’ and a good amount of ‘mayo’ (or white Belgian chocolate). We added thinly cut cream fondant as crispy fries and finished the burger with a little NYC diner flag!

Yes, another shot of that cute fondant donut topped cupcake! Just look at the fun sprinkles (the pretty gold pearls are from Fancy Sprinkles). We also used sprinkles to create the salted look to our large fondant pretzel. The cup of coffee, for us, had to be huge as giant cappuccino cups always reminds us of Friends and Central Perk!

When it came to the edible shopping bags the famous Bloomingdale’s Big Brown Bag was pretty essential. We added a little colour with a cute pink Kate Spade bag stuffed with tissue paper. We’re such huge fans of Kate Spade’s fun and stylish designs too, plus they encapsulate New York for us! The edible tissue paper scrunched up into the bags are simply thinly rolled and cut sugar paste.

We also created a street sign with the birthday girl’s name hand painted across it, a pretty pink cupcake with a tiny bakery serviette, shiny fondant apple, Statue of Liberty souvenir crown and a large slice of pepperoni pizza. These NYC themed cupcakes were so much fun to make!
