Firstly, we love big wedding cakes. Logistically and delivery-wise they’re super stressful, but in terms of design they’re a dream! 5 plus tiers to play with and get a lovely balance of different styles is a great size… especially for a glam wedding! Here’s a beautiful 5 tiered silver sequin wedding cake we made for the lovely Katie and James who celebrated at the gorgeous Brackenborough Hotel in Lincolnshire.
The top two tiers of this glam cake were decorated with edible silver sequins. These are perfect for an instant bit of glitz! The very top tier was absolutely covered whilst the second to top featured sequins that were more scattered. The initial idea of this cake was based on our peony ruffle wedding cake from a few years back. Pretty florals. Check. Metallic sequins. Check. Luxurious ruffles. Check.
This cake also features one white and grey marbled tier, which we love. Marbling fondant is one of those hold-your-breath moments. It’s so random and hard to control. Plus you always need to use more fondant than usual. We were instantly happy with the way this turned out. It was dark enough to hold it’s own against the ruffles and sequins, but light enough not to be distracting!
Fondant frills finish the bottom tier. Edible ruffles were so popular a couple of years ago… thankfully they’re back on trend. Yes, they take absolutely hours to do… even with the two of us sharing the job, but they’re so worth it. Frills always add an amazing amount of subtle drama to a cake. Plus they look weightless and so soft!
The top two tiers featured edible silver sequins that created ‘toppled’ effect down the larger tier. These looked amazing against the silver backdrop and silver sequin table cloth! Nestled into the tiers were three of our larger sugar flowers. We created a blush pink David Austin style bloom with cupped outer petals, pale yellow stamens and ruffled centre petals. We also crafted a white rose in a relaxed modern style. Finally, perched above the pink textured rose was our signature open peony with fluffy looking white petals and a pistil and stamen centre!
Stylish silver sequin wedding cake with pink ruffles!
This was such a gorgeously pink wedding! We absolutely loved the mini bottles of pink gin left as favours on the table. Seriously, if we were guests these would not have lasted us the night! They were the perfect little gift and particularly handy for topping up a drink or two!
Katie and James’ big day was held at the beautiful and serene Brackenborough Hotel out new Louth in Lincolnshire. While delivering every wedding cake is stressful it’s also amazing for us. A lot of British weddings take place at country hotels and manor houses. This means scenic routes, countryside and the instant feeling of relaxation. Brackenborough was no different! It has stunning grounds, an ivy covered front, and views of the rolling English countryside
Now for all the gorgeous flowers! The floral artistry behind Katie and James’ wedding was the work of Jo at The Wedding and Flower Boutique and Jill from Sanctuary Flowers! When we arrived to set-up the cake they were hard at work creating some wonderfully romantic pieces. Each table featured sparkling candelabras filled with blooms. Outside the wedding arch was festooned with pink garden roses (that smelled of pink lemondade)! The top / head table featured a full runner of fresh flowers. Finally, The entrance was decorated with so many pretty florals from a fun donut wall edged with roses to an etched mirror seating chart finished with pink blooms.
We love how this welcome sign features a large arrangement of soft pink and white roses, Astilbe and Veronica flowers. Lots of foliage too which has been growing popular throughout the year! Each wedding we do in 2018 seems to incorporate more wild or carefree leaves and greenery.
One of our current favourite flowers right now are Astilbe (middle right of the above image and top right corner of the photo below). They almost look like fluffy plumes of pink feathers.
Finally, here is a shot of the whole 5 tier beauty! The dramatic ruffles, modern marble effect, sleek white, glittering sequins and large florals help make this design a show stopper. Congratulations Katie & James!
