Mother’s Day cake time! We had a few requests last year for a party cake the whole family could enjoy on the special day. Soo… we thought of combining cake and a pretty bouquet of flowers. When dreaming up ideas we kept coming back to stylish little rose hat boxes and thought it’d be perfect to make a cake version. It’s a white 6 inch cake with gold accents and fresh pink roses. Each cake is presented in a re-usable and recyclable presentation box. We love the idea of leaving this ribbon tied cake with a bottle of champagne and bundles of roses ready to be found. They all feature our pink branded satin ribbon and a shimmering swing tag tied in a bow. We’re a little obsessed with our new branded ribbon incase you’ve not noticed.

The cake itself is a Lemon Zest & Raspberry flavour; just like one of our Mother’s Day cupcakes. The cake features lemon zest layers smothered with lemon and white chocolate buttercream and filled with a gorgeous raspberry preserve. Wonderfully fruity and perfect for the coming spring months. Below is a cheeky little shot of the inside of the cake just to tease.

Ahh… just look at those amazingly pink roses! We love anything that tackles two jobs in one so a bouquet of roses AND a cake in one is a definite win.

Please note: The pink of the roses may vary slightly due to availability, but we will always do our best to get an exact match.

Elegant Blush Watercolour and Peony Christening Cake!

Pretty blush pink wash cake with gold accents by Juniper Cakery

How pretty is this peony Christening cake? It’s perfect for a stylish party! We create a lot of different Christening cakes from semi-naked beauties finished with fresh roses to super cute designs adorned with fondant animals. All utterly fun, beautiful and unique to each special event. Every now and again it’s lovely to concentrate on a chic idea like this blush wash 2 tier with gold accents! We love how this design incorporates two gorgeous trends… subtle watercolour washes and a sparkling metallic! And who doesn’t love a luxurious touch of gold now and again?

One of our favourite parts of this peony Christening cake is Lily’s name! It’s striking and also pretty luxe too. The text was created 100% by hand (and with no template or guide). We used a caramel tinted fondant rolled out into a long and even ‘rope’. Quickly mapped out where we wanted it to sit and then went to work gently attaching to the front of the iced tier. It was then hand-painted with edible gold. Creating a scrolling text like this can be a bit stressful as you only get one attempt to get it perfect!

The gorgeous gold was carried on throughout the cake with the shimmering accent along the bottom tier. We wanted this to mimic the blush wash so it was layered on in carefree-style streaks. Gold was also used for the peony leaves and pistils.

The open peony itself is a pretty blush pink with fluffy stamens and hand-painted gold centres. We perched it angled upward onto the edge of the cake to give a lightweight feel to it. We then added long tapered gold leaves for extra height. If you know us then you’ll know we love to add a little height to our cakes… and foliage (real or sugar) is the perfect way to do this!

This was such a stunning cake for us to make. It’s always hard for us to see a cake leave us, however, they need to fulfil their party destiny! We hope little Lily and her guests enjoyed an amazing day!

Unicorn cake tutorial!

Who isn’t going to loveloveLOVE this little cutie? Rainbow mane? Check. Cheeky little smile. Check. Uh… unicorn. Definite check! When the folks over at Craftsy asked us to design and create some cake tutorials specifically for kit form (PDF print out guide and the cool stuff to make it) our first thought was… unicorn cake. They’re such a trend right now and they’re also ridiculously fun so we had to. We sketched out a few ideas, but we wanted it to look different to the myriad of unicorn treats out there right now, but obviously still recognisable. We ended up playing with the cake shape, brightening the colours from popular pastels to a slight neon look, and tweaking facial features and mane.

Ahhh just look at that glorious rainbow main! Our ideas went from curly, messy to sleek. Sleek seemed the best and most accessible style for the majority of people to get to grips with. It’s simple and can be attached fully to the sides and top of the design. For beginners… curly hair would get pretty infuriating to manage.

We toyed with a few different positions and styles for the unicorn’s smile before settling on a simple and straight forward sideways grin. For a little extra ease novices can even draw in the eyes and mouth with an edible marker too! If you’re feeling pretty adventurous though you can change it up… try adding a funny little pink tongue sticking out? Extend it’s smile and indent slight dimples? Try a half moon shape for a super happy unicorn?

OK, now we’ll leave you with one final image of our rainbow unicorn cake tutorial. Remember to follow this link and get started on making your very own!
