Cute Frozen Birthday Cake!

Fun Frozen birthday cake by Juniper Cakery

Frozen birthday cakes are pretty much a given on our order list each year. Yes, even in the glaring heat of summer it won’t be odd to find us crafting an Olaf from scratch! They’re too much fun… perfect for birthdays. Above is a cute single tier version we created recently. A special little lady turned 2 whole years old and obviously needed a cake to celebrate. You can read more about the different aspects of this sweet design below!

For a more sleek look we stuck to just a few design elements on the cake itself. On a pale ice blue cake we added some stylised mountains in a blue a few shades darker. A flurry of fondant snowballs trim the base and sparkling snowflakes featured on the front. We then added little Mila’s name in glittering silver painted letters. Obviously for that extra frosty look we lightly dusted the surface with an edible pearlescent lustre.

Yay! Olaf is pretty cool to make (pun intended). The trickiest part are those skinny eyebrows that we cut via hand. We end up working with such tiny features that we do wonder if we should get jeweller’s goggles sometimes! To finish his look Olaf gets a wide toothy grin, big excited eyes and a cute carrot nose to finish.

Of course would it even be a Frozen cake without Elsa? She is featured on top with Olaf having fun in the snow. We are totally loving Elsa’s hair on this cake too. We experimented with a few different ways to give her a dramatic side braid. First we sketched out ideas and then tested some. We settled on the final version because we thought the chunkiness of it looked cartoon-like and fun.

Elsa’s outfit was somewhat simplified as we thought that would lend well with the overall look of the cake. We definitely had to keep her cool train though. We angled it to sit a little to the side. What’s the point of a train if you can’t see it right?

We hit 100k Followers on Instagram!

We hit 100k followers on Instagram! Yay! Thank you to everyone who follows, likes, shares and comments on our Instagram! We just can’t believe it! It’s been a pretty long road getting to the 100k milestone really (the constantly shifting algorithms over the past 2 years certainly haven’t helped). Two years ago we got to 10k and thought that was amazing so just think how we feel now. Yay! We hit the big 100k back in late November, but Christmas and New Year was such a whirlwind that we’ve only just had the chance to blog about it. Typical.

Instagram has become a job in itself which we’ve both needed to pay attention to. The way the world works now it’s impossible to ignore especially when you run a business. It takes up a large proportion of our personal time. When we finish the physical work… the baking, decorating, small order pick-ups, photographing, wedding deliveries, etc… then we have to find time for Insta. So when everyone is on Netflix & chill mode we’re editing, cropping, pre-scheduling and then there’s the world of Instagram Stories (eek). It is, however, definitely a labour of love for us and it’s always exciting to see all that work finished and posted!

We hit 100k followers on Instagram!

It’s pretty crazy to think we have over 100k followers. When we began our business we’ll admit that we avoided social media in the early days. This was back in 2012 when those little Twitter or Facebook icons were a growing appearance on websites and packaging. These days it’s the first place people click to. Instagram itself acts as a constantly moving and evolving portfolio which is not only handy, but fun. Plus we sure do love the sleek square grid format! With that in mind we thought we’d share a few screencaps from our Instagram profile to celebrate! From cute cookies to colourful cakes there’s always room for an extra sweet treat.

Pretty Blush Pink Floral Wedding Cake at Saltmarshe Hall!

Blush pink wedding cake at Saltmarshe Hall by Juniper Cakery

We’ve been so busy this wedding season that we only just now have a bit of time to write a post! Perfect for a spring wedding we created this gorgeously blush wedding cake in March. A pretty bespoke creation for the lovely Sally and Andrew who celebrated at the serene Saltmarshe Hall! It was the very first cake of our wedding season and we were so excited to make it.

In the centre was a pink ombré modern rose with rose petals swirling around the centre bud. On each side we added ombré open peonies with light pink inner petals fading to white for the ruffled petals on the outside. Dotted around were small white damson blossoms, rose leaves and grey-green eucalyptus springs.

This wedding cake at Saltmarshe Hall featured glittering 24k edible gold leaf which adorned the centre. These burst out from underneath the sugar florals and add an extra bit of luxe.

We added a little touch of texture to the top tier with hand-piped royal icing pearls. This is definitely one of our favourite ways to subtly detail a wedding cake! We then kept the base tier lovely and sleek with a shimmering satin lustre effect.

We loved the pretty yet carefree decor the couple added to the hall! Since we first met Sally and Andrew for their consultation we remembered them as being a fun couple. That 100% shined through at the venue from the gigantic balloon, relaxed flowers, quirky afternoon tea and hand written order of the day mirror. Of course, we took a few snaps of on the day! The florals were all locally grown by Wold’s Way Flowers in Scarborough and arranged by the bride and groom!

Now time for the treats! For Sally and Andrew’s big day they wanted a selection of blush and ivory macarons streaked with glittering gold! Flavours? Our popular Vanilla & White Chocolate Truffle, Strawberry Milkshake (lovely and fragrant), Cookies & Cream (perfect for kids… and big kids too) and gooey Salted Caramel!

As for the wedding favours we created watercolour painted hexagon cookies featuring the happy couple’s initials in gold letters. These were alongside heart biscuits with golden streaks and hand-piped ‘love’ across each! We also baked and decorated smaller accompanying cookies in mini hexagons and mini hearts.

When setting up the cake the couple left a cute golden cake topper which added a bit of extra height! The perfect finish to a sweet and romantic wedding cake! Congratulations Sally and Andrew!
