Dramatic Burgundy Semi-Naked Wedding Cake at Rise Hall!

Dramatic berry, burgundy and navy wedding cake by Juniper Cakery at Rise Hall

Isn’t this cake perfect for the darker and moodier months of the year? This burgundy semi-naked cake made one dramatic centrepiece at the lovely Rise Hall. Adorned with striking florals and an elegant take on an autumn palette this beauty was joy to make!

The gorgeous fresh flowers were provided by the lovely Sarah from Floral Lounge. Florals included deep burgundy roses, dainty wax flowers, blue thistles, ruscus leaves, and little white spray roses too! We particularly loved the foliage on the wax flowers as they look almost identical to rosemary springs. We arranged the florals so they were cascading around the cake which always looks so dramatic and luxurious. Can you have too many flowers? (Our vote is for a resounding ‘no’.)

Each tier was smoothed with matching light madagascan vanilla bean infused buttercream. The colour palette on the cake itself needed to be lovely and plain so the flowers could really do their work!

A lot of people ask us about delivering wedding cakes so… For taller cakes we transport them as 3 finished tiers and then stack the additional tiers on site securing the extra tier(s) in place with royal icing or chocolate. It can be a little nerve shattering especially when staff or guests are in the room, but you just need to take a deep breath and get to it.

Blush Pink Semi-Naked Wedding Cake with Fondant Frills!

Blush pink semi-naked wedding cake with white fondant frills by Juniper Cakery

We love a sun-filled late spring wedding… the full on florals, soft and luxurious colour palettes and, of course, the pretty wedding cakes! This weekend’s wedding centrepiece was perhaps the perfect springtime cake! Romantic blush pink, white ruffles, and glittering gold sequin drips! Plus there was a touch of the Parisienne… Oh la la!

Blush pink semi-naked wedding cake with white fondant ruffles by Juniper Cakery

This 3 tiered beauty was delivered and all set up at Rise Hall (20 minutes outside of Hull in Yorkshire) on a wonderfully sun-drenched day ready for a weekend of celebration! The bottom tier (our popular Strawberries & Champagne flavour) was adorned with so many textured fondant ruffles. We love creating edible frills as they are an amazing way to add drama to a pretty design.

The top 2 tiers are both delicious chocolate based flavours (Belgian Chocolate and also Cookies & Cream). Each feature a blush pink Madagascan vanilla infused buttercream finished with glistening gold sequin drips on alternate sides. Golden sequin drips are pretty much one of our signature and most requested decors for semi-naked cakes. They’re an amazing way to add a little extra glitz!

Look at that sweet little Eiffel Tower cookie! We’re noticing a trend this year with hidden objects on cakes that tell a story about the couple or hint at an inside joke. Paris was a special place for our happy couple, Amy and Tom, so they requested a Tour d’Eiffel cookie to be nestled on the middle tier. It’s a Madagascan vanilla sugar cookie finished with gold detailing and a blush pink heart. Doesn’t it add a fabulously personal touch?

Time to look at all those glorious edible ruffles! Aren’t they gorgeous? We create each ruffle individually by cutting, thinning and frilling every single piece. Obviously, this takes some time, but the results are worth it! Fondant frills are always a pretty addition to any cake. We like to make ours extra textured too. These are a sleek and bright white, but we’ve crafted edible ruffles in blush and even omrbé sky blue!

To decorate we added our popular Strawberry Milkshake macarons in plain white and blush finished with luxurious 24k gold leaf! We also nestled blush pink meringues in a light cotton candy / vanilla flavour. Sweet little patisserie style treats are perfect for semi-naked cakes! Madeleines, cream puffs, eclairs also make lovely edible decorations!

Flowers at Rise Hall by Floral Lounge

How gorgeous are the florals? All flowers (including the white roses on the cake) were by the talented and super hard-working Floral Lounge team in Kingston-upon-Hull! The candlebras were festooned with blush roses, white astilbe (they’re so feathery and pretty), giant pristine white hydrangeas, ivy and pale pink peonies.

Ah, look at that lovely closed pink peony! Every single year we can’t wait for peony season to start. Sadly, they never last for long (around a month?).

We also created two cute little Eiffel Tower cookies just for the bride and groom to enjoy… complete with mini hearts iced in blush, which matched the cake perfectly.

Event styling by Cherry Williams Party Hire

The luxe event styling was by the wonderful Cherry Williams Party Hire in Beverley! We love photographing styled chair shots and this was such a beauty. Subtle and glam with a soft blush satin bow on a Chiavari chair finished with a diamanté brooch!

Congratulations to Amy and Tom! We hope you and your guests enjoyed an amazing day in the spring sunshine at Rise Hall!

Shimmering Pearl Wedding Cake with Fresh Roses!

Piped Pretty Pearl Wedding Cake with Fresh Blooms by Juniper Cakery

Our sweet hand-piped pearl wedding cake is such a popular design. We make every single cake as bespoke as we can for each couple, which makes this cake so adaptable! It’s the perfect design for a country wedding with fresh florals nestled into a hidden base. (Or for an urban chic reception bold sugar flowers with subtle geometric shapes can add an industrial luxe look.) This three tiered beauty was the centrepiece at Lisa and Steven’s wedding at the pretty Georgian / modern Dunedin Country House in Patrington, East Yorkshire!

The gorgeous large blush and white roses with gypsophila were from The Flower Shop out in Hedon (unfortunately, we’re not able to supply any website or social media links). For this style cake we don’t push the florals into the base of a cake. Instead, we build the cakes onto a sturdy hidden base which we arrange florals into once tiered and dowelled.

How pretty is the set-up at Dunedin Country House? It’s a Georgian country home with hints of modern interior. Cue mirrored console tables, botanical detailed door plates, and chandeliers. We have quite a few orders for Dunedin House this year so we’ll make sure to get a few photographs of the finer details!

The entire cake then featured pearls that are clustered from the top which become sparse towards the base. The pearls are hand-piped individually before they are painted with a shimmering edible lustre. This always takes a lot of time and patience! The pearls are a nice way to add interest and texture to a cake without going overboard allowing the focus to stay on the floral crown underneath.

Peach Exploding Sugar Rose Wedding Cake!

Peach Exploding Rose Wedding Cake by Juniper Cakery

Isn’t this exploding rose cake idea fun? We’d seen a few of these around for a couple of years, but oddly enough we’d never created one. Now we have thanks to the lovely Abbie and Jacob who got married at the stunning Little Wold Vineyard here in the East Riding of Yorkshire! As soon as they sent over images of two cakes they loved the idea of we were excited!

Pretty Peach Exploding Rose Wedding Cake by Juniper Cakery

One of the images they sent over was of a cake that featured the largest sugar flower ever adorning the front. This style of wedding design is an exploding rose wedding cake. We always end up calling them giant rose cakes or even expanding rose cakes. A huge sugar flower is nestled into the front with lots of larger matching petals spreading out around it. It’s a really great idea for adding a definite focal point to a wedding centrepiece!

The cake itself features a sweet and subtle blush pink and grey marble working around each tier. We added hints of edible 24k gold leaf along streaks of colour. Both the marble and gold add a nice touch of texture throughout. Marbling fondant is pretty tricky as it’s 100% random. You can try to plan out your marble, but that usually doesn’t work once you’ve rolled out the fondant to the thickness you need.

Lovely Peach Exploding Rose Wedding Cake by Juniper Cakery

There’s around 60 petals on this exploding rose wedding cake from the bud to the outer layers. We created an oversized wire rose to begin with using larger petal cutters, a softer ruffle and more petals. We then created lots and lots of peach gum paste / flower paste petals in a large size, thinned and ruffled each edge before leaving them to set.

Exploding rose wedding cake!

We love the result! It’s such a sweet and bright cake with so much texture on the front from the oversized peach rose. We definitely can’t wait to create another one! This was delivered and set up at the stunning Little Wold Vineyard in their marquee on the loveliest of Bank Holiday Weekends (seriously, it was a beautiful day). Congratulations Abbie & Jacob!

Little Wold Vineyard wedding

Now for a few quick snaps we took of the venue and amazing florals! Everything was so sunny and pretty we just couldn’t resist. The venue was the Little Wold Vineyard (follow them via Instagram or Facebook too) which is a also a wedding venue perched next to a sprawling vineyard on a hill in South Cave, East Yorkshire. There’s such an amazing view down the hill into the village of South Cave. Obviously they create their own wine too! Being packaging freaks we love their branding and the illustrations of pheasants on their bottles.

The bold and gorgeous flowers were by local florist Floral and Lace (here’s links to their Instagram and FB). How beautiful are they? When we entered the marquee with the cake in tow the florals were one of the first things to get our attention. Pretty white tulips, pink streaked (HUGE) dahlias, Coral Charm open peonies, pale roses and lots of full foliage!
